The Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills Gran Reserva is the most prestigious edition of the well-known Wide Churchill, a Cuban cigar released for regular production in 2010. The Gran Reserva was presented during the Festival del Habano in 2015, but was launched at the beginning 2018. In many markets it has become effectively available in the middle of this year.
This Romeo y Julieta is branded “Cosecha 2009”, which means that the tobaccos used for its realization come from the 2009 harvest. 5.ooo boxes of 15 cigars were produced.
Aesthetically, the cigar is dressed in a Colorado shaded wrapper, that is smooth to the touch. Filling of the tested cigar was homogeneous and generous.

Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills Gran Reserva: unlit, toasted hints of coffee are revealed. The opening re-proposes sweet coffee notes, supported by a slight spiciness in the background.
Overall, the Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills Gran Reserva releases a smoke with a contained evolution. The flavor profile is not particularly broad and revolves around hazelnut and toasted coffee notes. Good in intensity. Some of the cigars tested showed mechanical defects (mainly an uneven burn that required corrections).
This Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills Gran Reserva definitely does not quite hit the expectations, considering the hype of the Gran Reserva line and also the market price. The regular production Wide Churchill performs better, developing an intenser and more satisfying smoke.
