The Rafael González Coronas de Lonsdale is the newest addition to Habanos SA’s Rafael Gonzalez brand. It was launched last year during an event in Portugal.

It is the largest ring-gauged cigar in the brand’s lineup, sold in 10-ct boxes in a Hermosos No. 4 size.

The cigar is dressed in an oily Colorado-colored wrapper, that is smoother to the touch than it looks. Construction is great and the filling is generous.

Rafael González Coronas de Lonsdale: a sweet and vegetal aroma is perceived in the cold draw. Once lit, the smoke reveals flavors of espresso and nuts.

Further into the first third, wood is added to the profile, backed by a slight vanilla sweetness. Strength is medium-light (2/3).

Herbs are added in the second third and the smoke becomes creamier. The strength increases to a solid medium level (3/5).

A hint of spice joins in the last third, together with an unpleasant bitterness. Strength remains unchanged.

Overall, the Rafael Gonzalez Coronas de Lonsdale is a complex smoke with well outlined flavors. Unfortunately, the bitter note creeping in on the last third makes for an unbalanced last third. A bit of rest in the humidor should mitigate this issue.
