Montecristo Open Master: before lighting the cigar up, wood hints can be perceived. The opening gives off woody and earthy notes.
The first tercio delivers aged wood, earth, cocoa and white pepper. In some puff piquant echoes can be perceived. The fruition is very creamy, with a medium body (3/5).
The second tercio alternates earthy with balsamic herbs notes. White pepper is always present, now as background. Strength slightly increases (3,5/5).
In the third tercio the balsamic herbs are taking over, becoming the main aroma. White pepper can still be perceived as background. The smoke keeps being creamy up to the end. Finish is balanced and pleasant, with a medium-high body (4/5).
When released in 2009, the Montecristo Open line did not perform as per the intentions of Habanos. Many smokers in fact consider these new smokers cigars, then diverting to other brands or lines. The last Montecristo Open we have been testing (from 2015 and 2016 to provide the details) are definitely a different story, especially the Masters. The smoke is very balanced and harmonious, the aromas palette is wide, as the evolution. The most recent Masters give off a completely different experience when compared to the ones from 2009. A re-discover of absolute interest.
