The Meerapfel family is best known for growing Cameroon wrappers and producing brands such as La Estancia and others. Now they have launched a new brand that bears their family’s name, Meerapfel Cigar. The first line under the new brand is Meerapfel Cigar Master Blend Richard, dedicated to the late pioneer and patriarch of the Meerapfel family who suddenly died far too early in 2003.
Jeremiah Meerapfel, chairman of M. Meerapfel & Söhne Belgium S.A., who spearheads this project, spared no expense in making this new line that goes beyond any other premium cigar and creates an entirely new segment that the family called UberLuxury.
“A tribute to our past; respecting our future! The UberLuxury is an expression of tradition, values, and respect. It is the mission of MEERAPFEL to preserve and perpetuate this expression,” says Jeremiah Meerapfel.
Not much is disclosed about the blend and who makes the cigars. The only known details are that the Richard uses a vintage Cameroon wrapper and that the cigars are made in the Dominican Republic. The line will be made up of seven sizes:
- Churchill, 47 x 178mm (7″)
- Corona Gorda, 46 x 140mm (5 1/2″)
- Double Robusto, 52 x 146mm (5 3/4″)
- Lancero, 40 x 190mm (7 1/2″)
- Lonsdale, 43 x 171mm (6 3/4″)
- Pyramide, 52 x 155mm (6 1/8″)
- Robusto, 50 x 124mm (4 7/8″)
The Double Robusto is the first size to release, with a flag head finish, and comes in 10-count chests, while the other sizes will come in 25-count chests. The other sizes are following soon. All cigars will come in chests and at the bottom of each chest is a tray that functions as either an ashtray or a display for the cigars. Each cigar is dressed in a highly detailed band. Production is limited to 613 chests per size, and they will only be available through specifically partnered premium cigar retailers worldwide.
The retail price for the Double Robusto is set at $86 / €94 per cigar. The remaining sizes will range from $38 – $63 or €41 – 68. For more details, visit the Meerapfel Cigar website.
