Joya de Nicaragua’s Cinco Decadas line commemorates the 50th anniversary of the brand. The Fundador size was added last year joining the Diadema and the El General and is an homage to Juan Francisco Bermejo and Simón Camacho.
The wrapper is of a Maduro color, with a decent amount of tooth to it. There are small veins present, very minimal, and the construction is flawless.

Joya de Nicaragua Cinco Décadas Fundador: earth and spice are revealed in the cold draw. Once lit, the cigar opens with the aforementioned earth and spice, mainly black pepper.
The first third has the intense earth and black pepper flavors in the foreground, with a mix of nuts (hazelnut and walnut) following right behind it. Strength is immediately medium-bodied (3/5).
In the second third, the earth and the black pepper are the dominant flavor. Things get interesting in the background, where the nutty mix is joined by notes of cocoa. Strength increases slightly (3.5/5).
The final third is an amplification of the previous third. The flavors present have grown in intensity and towards the end, a vegetal note sneaks in as well. Strength remains constant.
Overall, the Joya de Nicaragua Cinco Decadas Fundador hits on all cylinders. The flavors are intense and vibrant, while the strength is just right. This might make the cigar appear to be stronger than it actually is. Great balance. This is a worthy addition to this special line.
