Joya Cabinetta Lancero

Joya Cabinetta Lancero 1600 900 Giuseppe Mitolo

The Joya Cabinetta Lancero is the product that marks the glorious return of an old cigar produced by the Joya de Nicaragua brand, the Cabinetta Serie No. 13. This last cigar, introduced in 2010 in the standard vitolario, left the scene in 2016, the year in which there was a rebranding that marked the contraction of the name to Joya Cabinetta, to make it uniform with the “colored” series of the brand (red, black, silver).

The Cabinetta series, currently made up of five formats, was missing a lancero format, requested by many right at the top of Joya de Nicaragua. After several years, at the PCA last March the Cabinetta Lancero was presented, equal in size to the old Cabinetta Sere No. 13. This latest version, however, is offered in a limited edition of 1000 boxes, distributed in all global markets.

Nothing changes in the blend, which includes Nicaraguan tobaccos for the filler and binder, with a wrapper grown in Ecuador from Connecticut seeds and the addition of a piece of Nicaraguan Criollo leaf near the head, to create the classic chromatic contrast, typical of the line. The box, a modern “stand-up” package, contains 20 cigars each.

For most of its length, the cigar is dressed by a bright wrapper in a Colorado Claro shade with yellow reflections. To the touch, it is silky with light veins. Construction and filling are great, and the draw appears regular.

Joya Cabinetta Lancero: well defined scents of earth and wood are perceptible in the cold draw.

Joya Cabinetta Lancero 3

After lighting, the smoke on the palate is sapid with an acidic nuance that disappears after a few minutes. The cigar expresses very marked notes of wood and nuts, with a less intense but still evident peppery character. The strength is medium (3/5).

In the central section, the sapidity and woody notes remain unchanged. A new mineral component is inserted with the same intensity as the wood. The original aroma of nuts opens up into more defined notes of walnut and almond. The strength increases slightly (3.5/5).

In the final section, the sapidity remains unchanged, while the flavor profile is defined by the intense mineral note, followed by less vigorous aromas of earth and wood. On the last puffs, before reaching the second wrapper leaf, the cigar begins to lose balance, returning strong bitter components and underlining the moment to lay down the cigar. The strength becomes medium-full (4/5).

Overall, the Joya Cabinetta Lancero offers a smoke with a marked flavor intensity that combines a discreet evolution with moderate strength. The enjoyment proves satisfying and concludes even before the second wrapper approaches, which is why we believe that the choice of the double wrapper is more of a chromatic than an organoleptic idea. However, if you are looking for a more decisive palate imprint and a more marked finish, you can continue beyond the smoke, sacrificing a little balance.
