Hoyo de Monterrey Piramides EL 2003: before lighting the cigar up, aged wood and precious spices (white pepper) hints can be noted. Opening is elegant, giving off aged wood, precious spices and herbal echoes.
The first third brings to the palate intense earthy notes, paired with mild spices and herbal echoes. Chestnut honey notes are also delivered when moving on into the fruition. Aromas palette is elegant and harmonious, quite coherent with the Hoyo de Monterrey brand. Strength is light to medium (2,5/5).
In the second third the cigar changes into a nutty character (walnut). Earth is still present, while the spicy component becomes less and less intense. Strength increases a little bit, reaching a medium level (3/5).
The last third features an increase of the walnut notes, becoming the dominant aroma. Undergrowth hints are present now in the background. Strength continues increasing, but in a gradual way (3,5/5).
Overall, a smoke which, even though characterized by an aromas palette which does not fully represent the Hoyo de Monterrey brand, provides the typical characteristics of the brand: harmony, elegance and style. Aromas intensity is remarkable, and persistency is average.
A cigar delivering a very pleasant, rewarding fruition.
