Cohiba Robusto Reserva 1600 900 Luca Cominelli

The Cohiba Robusto Reserva is made with tobaccos coming from the 2014 harvest. The cigar was announced in 2018, but it reached the markets in the final part of 2020. The production is limited to 5.000 black lacquered boxes containing 20 cigars. This is the sixth Cohiba cigar dressed with the “Reserva” label. The first five were released in 2003 (all in a 30 count box that contained 5 Esplendidos, 5 Robustos, 5 Coronas Especiales, 5 Media Coronas, and 5 Piramides).

The Cigars are wrapped in a beautiful Colorado shaded leaf that is smooth to the touch. Filling is uniform. The cigars wear two bands, one being the classic Cohiba, the other pointing out that this is the “Reserva” edition, which means limited production and tobacco aged for at least three years. The “Reserva” line was introduced back in 2003.

Cohiba Robusto Reserva

Cohiba Robusto Reserva: the cold draw reveals scents of cedarwood. The first few puffs deliver notes of white pepper and cedarwood, together with a touch of earth.

Cohiba Robusto Reserva

The cigar needs quite a few puffs to start delivering a tasty smoke, made of cedarwood, white pepper, and earth, enriched with piquant peaks. The smoke is slightly dry, and soon cocoa joins the flavor profile as well. Strenght is just a bit above medium (3.5/5).

In the middle section, the flavor profile turns to walnut, earth, and a touch of cocoa. The spices are still perceivable, but they move to the background, giving rise to a long finish. There is also an aroma of seasoned wood. Strength is now medium-full (4/5). Halfway through the smoke, the base gets slightly sweet.

In the final third, the spices become the protagonist, along with cocoa and earth. In the background, there is now the seasoned wood. There is also a vegetal vein present, while the sweet flavors are no longer perceivable. The strength is still medium-full (4/5). The finale is all about spices, with white pepper and piquant peaks, together with rich notes of walnut and seasoned wood.

Overall, the Cohiba Robusto Reserva delivers a satisfying smoke, with a rich flavor profile that boasts a nice evolution. The aromas are structured and deep, and the cigar has great aging potential. Still, it is already ready to be enjoyed, something that the new Cuban releases usually lack. Compared to the traditional Cohiba Robusto, this Reserva shows a greater strength, but the flavor profile is not as sweet as the standard production. The Robusto Reserva is a more complex version, but this comes with a price that is more than three times higher.
