Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Rothschild 1600 900 Michel Arlia

The Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva line is heralded as the flagship brand of Arturo Fuente. It comes in nine different vitolas, with the Rothschild being the shortest out of the bunch. There are also a couple of different wrapper variations available, four to be exact: African Cameroon, Connecticut Broadleaf, Connecticut Shade, and Ecuadorian Sungrown. The Rothschild are sold in 25-count boxes.

Visually, the wrapper has some decent tooth to it and is of a matte (both typical characteristics of an African Cameroon wrapper) Colorado Maduro shade. Construction is flawless.

Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Rothschild

Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Rothschild: the cold draw brings spicy and woody aromas to the palate. Once the cigar is lit, it immediately starts with a blast of black pepper and cedarwood.

Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Rothschild

The first half has black pepper set as the main flavor. Right behind it, follow notes of cedarwood, bread, roasted coffee, and herbs. The smoke is quite creamy. Strength is medium (3/5).

Getting into the second half, the black pepper is still the dominant flavor. Notes of molasses now support the cedarwood, bread, and coffee. The herbal aroma is still present, but faintly in the background. A mineral nuance appears toward the end of the smoke. Strength increases to a medium-full level (4/5).

Overall, the Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Rothschild presents a great intensity of flavors while still being complex and also evolving throughout the smoke. That, paired with the short size, makes for a great smoke for the colder days of the year.
