Aganorsa Leaf Rare Leaf Reserve Toro 1600 900 Michel Arlia

The Aganorsa Rare Leaf Reserve was launched earlier this year and focuses heavily on Nicaraguan Criollo tobacco. All the tobacco is cultivated by Aganorsa Leaf itself and the blend for this Nicaraguan puro is made up of two Criollo 98 binders over Criollo 98 and Corojo 99 tobaccos for the filler.

The line comes in three sizes and they are produced at Aganorsa’s Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. (TABSA). This product is reserved for Aganorsa Leaf Select retail partners.

The wrapper is of an oily Colorado color, that has a decent amount of tooth to it. Construction and filling are flawless.

Aganorsa Rare Leaf Reserva Toro

Aganorsa Leaf Rare Leaf Reserve Toro: a mix of spices, wood, and vegetal notes is perceived in the cold draw. The opening starts out with wood, earth, and black pepper.

Aganorsa Rare Leaf Reserva Toro

The first third has the combination of wood and nuts set as the primary flavors, joined by earth and herbal notes. Black pepper is exclusively present in the retro hale. A sweet nuance comes through as well from time to time. Strength falls slightly short of being medium bodied (2.5/5).

A leather note appears in the second third, next to the wood, earth and nuts (mainly hazelnut). The herbal aroma is still present, while the black pepper is still only perceived in the retro hale. Strength is medium (3/5).

Towards the last third, the flavors drop in intensity. The hazelnut takes over the profile, closely followed by wood and earth. Leather and herbs have moved to the background. The black pepper is still faintly present in the retro hale. Strength remains medium.

Overall, the Aganorsa Leaf Rare Leaf Reserve Toro is a balanced and smooth smoke, with a complex profile in the first two thirds. Unfortunately, the flavor intensity decreases significantly in the last third.
